"The wise leader does not intervene unnecessarily. The leader's presence is felt, but often the group runs itself. Remember that you are facilitating another person's process. It is not your process. Do not intrude. Do not control. Do not force your own needs and insights into the foreground. A good leader talks little and when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, the people will remark, 'we have done it ourselves!'"- Lao Tzu
Learning to facilitate is a constant study in fun, psychology, learning modalities, and observation. Often the introduction to facilitation is through a team building activity. You think to yourself, "Wow this is a lot of fun! I could do this!" Soon you're learning and playing games whenever you can. Then you notice that it goes deeper than just games and activities. You notice the way other facilitators phrase things, there are methods and techniques being used to process activities, and an order to all the activities. This page attempts to outline the essential pieces of being a Facilitator.
